Today the Grade 4 students from Mrs. Hughes class had a visit from the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra composer-in-residence, Harry Stafylakis. The students performed their original class composition based on the poem City Autumn by Joseph Moncure March. Mr. Stafylakis will use the student’s own ideas to create a brand new work for the WSO. This work will be premiered at the WSO Adventures in Music concerts in May. Mrs Hughes’ class was one of only 3 classes in Winnipeg chosen to participate in this exciting WSO project.
Below is a link to download the video of the class performing their original composition. Remembrance Day Assembly

Have a great school year! Mme. Patenaude Last Wednesday, all Grade 3 classes took part in an Opera Class presented by Manitoba Opera. The students met Suzanne, an trained opera singer from Manitoba Opera, who led them through a series of operatic vocal warm-ups, as well as taught them about the how the music tells the story and how props, stage design, and costumes add depth and drama to each production. Here are a few photos of our morning together. Pembina Trails Voices is still accepting applications for boys of all ages. If you have a boy who thrives in music and loves to sing, this is a great opportunity for him to meet other boys who share this same interests. Sometimes, meeting other boys who love music can be the start of our future school musical theater leads, as well as choir and band leaders. If you and your child are interested in this opportunity and in receiving more information, please send me an email and/or click below:
April and May have been so busy with musical activities! Here are a few photos of the special events we have taken part in over the last few weeks... I'm excited to announce that the Grade 6-8 Choir has been invited to sing as a Guest Choir at the Winnipeg Male Chorus "Spring Sing" on Sunday, May 6th at 2:30 pm. Each chorister will receive one free ticket for an accompanying parent or guardian and additional tickets are available in advance for $12.50 in the music room. Tickets are $15.00 at the door, and students/children tickets are $5.00 each. It would be wonderful to see you there!
If your child loves to sing, consider having them try out for the Pembina Trails Voices. There is a choir suitable for every grade level from Kindergarten to Grade 12. Weekly practices and several performances per year make for an enriching musical experience for young singers. For more information, click on the link below. Audition Request forms are available in the music room and the deadline is Friday, April 20th.
