Here is some information regarding the Winter Concert on December 16th at 6:30 at the Church of the Rock, located at 1397 Buffalo Place.
Parent parking will be available in the West Lot off of Fennell St. Students are asked to arrive no earlier than 6:00 pm. The concert will begin at 6:30 pm. Here is some information to assist you in planning for this wonderful evening. Students can begin arriving at the venue at 6:00 pm that evening. At 6:00 pm the hallways will open and they can go to meet their teachers in their assigned rooms. If they arrive before 6:00 pm students must stay with their families until the doors open. Please be aware that students should bring indoor footwear to wear during the concert, and that food and beverages are not allowed in the sanctuary. Students in K – 2 and the 3/4 Choir will be going to Church of the Rock in the morning on December 16th for the Dress Rehearsal. Students in Grades 3 – 5 will be leaving for Church of the Rock at 12:30 pm on December 17 and returning by 3:00 pm for the Dress Rehearsal. Classroom teachers will be sending you a link for permission to attend the rehearsals on Dec 16th. Parents and students are encouraged to stay for the entire concert so that there is a nice, full, supportive audience for those students performing at the end of the evening. The concert will end by 8:00 pm. CONCERT ATTIRE Here's what we ask your child to wear for the Winter Concert: 3/4 choir is to dress in black bottoms and white tops. No logos please. Kindergarten – Fancy attire and an apron from home. Grade one – Fancy attire. School will supply scarves. Grade Two - Black bottoms and black top (no logos) School will supply snowflake necklaces Grade 3 – black bottoms and white tops (no logos) School will supply reindeer headbands Grade 4 – black bottoms and white tops (no logos) School will supply holiday headbands Grade 5 (any students who are not in the cast) are citizens of the North Pole. They are welcome to dress in Festive dress. For example holiday sweaters, anything green, red and white, toques, scarves, Santa hats, reindeer antlers, elf hats etc. Grade 5 Dancers have received costume information from Mme. Beauregard Grade 5 Actors received individual costume details in a letter home last week. Thank you for all your support. It's going to be a great show!

Remembrance Day
We are very excited that both VW choirs will have their first performance at our Remembrance Day Assembly on Friday, November 8 at 11:00 am. Choir members are reminded to wear white tops (no logos please) and black pants or skirts with dark stockings. VW Kindergarten- Grade 5 Holiday Concert Update: This year’s holiday concert is on Monday, December 16 at Church of the Rock located at 1397 Buffalo Place. Students are asked to arrive no earlier than 6:00 PM. The concert will begin at 6:30 PM. More details to come. Grade 5 Musical Auditions Next week, Grade 5 students have the opportunity to audition for acting and dancing roles in the Grade 3-5 musical portion of the concert. Students will be notified of their roles on the afternoon of Friday, November 8th. Rehearsals will begin Tuesday, November 12th, where your child will be given his/her script and notified of the November rehearsal schedule. September has arrived and it's going to be another great school year! I'm looking forward to making music with our students.

This school year we will be offering two choirs with new grade configurations. Please encourage your young person to join in the fun! The Grade 3/4 Choir will take place on Day 6 and will begin on Tuesday, September 10. Choir members will bring their lunches to the music room to eat at 12 noon. This term the 3/4 choir will prepare songs to sing for the Remembrance Day assembly and the Winter Concert. The Grade 5-8 Choir (The Middle Year's Choraleers) will take place on Wednesday mornings from 8:00 - 8:45 am. It will begin Wednesday, September 11 and choir members will be preparing songs for the Remembrance Day assembly as well as for other concerts and events TBA. Any Grade 5 students who also have patrol duty can leave for their post during rehearsal, as necessary. The Winter Concert takes place on Monday, December 18 at Church of the Rock. Please add this date to your calendar. It's an exciting night for our students and promises to be an entertaining evening. Have a great school year! Mme. Patenaude May is only half over and there is already so much to share! Grade 4 Orff Day On Wednesday, May 8th, five Grade 4 students took part in the Pembina Trails School Division Orff Day at My Church. The theme of the day was a Chorus of Colour and our VW students were part of the yellow group. Throughout the day the students enjoyed a variety of musical workshops including movement, recorder, barred Orff instruments, and choir. They presented their learning at the sharing session for family and friends at the end of the day. Grade 4 Field Trip to the WSOOn Wednesday, May 15 all three grade 4 classes went on their annual field trip to the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra. This year's concert was more special than in previous years as VW students were chosen to be a part of the Composition Project with WSO composer-in-residence Harry Stafylakis. In November, Mr. Stafylakis visited our school to hear 4H's class composition based on the poem City Autumn by Joseph Moncure March. Inspired by the class Orff composition, Mr. Stafylakis took the student's ideas and incorporated them into a full-orchestra composition written for the WSO. Yesterday, we were lucky enough to hear this beautiful composition in full performance. It was a really exciting and memorable moment for our Grade 4 students. Summer Music Camp in Linden WoodsIf your child, loves music and wishes to continue their musical exploration throughout the summer, local singing teacher Elizabeth Rotoff has a voice studio located in Linden Woods and has been helping children find the joy of singing for over 22 years.
Summer Singing Camps for Children (Half Day) Ages 6 – 8: July 8 – 12, 9:00 am - noon Ages 9 – 11: July 15 – 19, 9:00 am – noon These fun-filled camps include music making, musical theatre, yoga, acting, and exploring the world through imagination. Every child will learn a group song and a solo song with a mini performance on the final day. Last week six Grade 5 students took part in Manitoba Orff Chapter's Journée d'Enfants at the Franco-Manitoba Cultural Center. Students from all over the province took part in a variety of musical workshops including African drumming, recorder, dance, singing, and barred instruments. At the end they performed some of what they learned with family and friends. Here's a few photos of our day!
Grade 5-8 Middle Year Choraleers Choir! With 4/5 choir done for the year, I have invited the Grade 5 singers to join our Grade 6-8 choir for the last concert of the year. The concert will take place at My Church (formally Immanuel Pentecostal Church) on Wednesday, May 29 at 7:00 pm. This will be the premiere performance of the 5-8 choir now called The Middle Years Choraleers! Pembina Trails Voices Pembina Trails Voices will be offering auditions for the 2019 – 2020 season in May for all students who love music and love to sing! Pembina Trails Voices is a choir program with a regular five-concert season for our various performing ensembles. PTV offers opportunities to learn great music, make life-long friends, and perform with professional organizations like the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, and in the older ensembles, record and tour each year. Audition packages are available now from in the music room or from the PTV office at 181 Henlow Bay. On Wednesday, May 15 the Grade 4 classes will be attending the Adventures in Music concert performed by the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra. The theme of this year’s concert Our Music, Our Language. We have been listening to and learning about a variety of orchestral music in preparation for this concert. More details will be provided in the Permission Click email sent by the homeroom teachers. Congratulations to the singers in the Grade 4/5 Choir who energetically performed two songs yesterday at the Winnipeg Music Festival. All their hard work paid off as they earned a Silver Metal Standing. Bravo!
4/5 Choir is now wrapped up for the year. I truly enjoyed working with this great group of singers and I'm looking forward to continue working with them in choir next year! What an amazing night! Our Winter Concert was a huge success. A big THANK YOU goes out to all VW teachers and staff who helped make this evening run so smoothly. Congratulations to all VW students who sang, acted, and danced their hearts out for our enjoyment. Lastly, THANK YOU to all the parents for supporting your children's love for music and the arts!
